Weather Highlights?
The month began with cold wet days...brightened up to beautiful Autumn weather but by the end of the month we were back to cool wet conditions!
During May there were 22 days that began with humidity levels over 80%. Now we head into what is being predicted to be a dry winter.

Harvest Tally:
Doesn't include Greens fed to the chooks on a daily basis or herbs picked for use in the kitchen for cooking or tea making. For Salads, Juice and Stirfries I have been picking Lettuce, Kale, Lebanese Cress, Spring Onions, Parsley, Silverbeet, Sorrel and Sweet Potato Leaves which are not always weighed.
Beetroot 189g
Bok Choi 77g
Cauliflower 2598g
Kale 375g + much more fed to chooks
Radish 189g
Silverbeet 283g + much more fed to chooks
Sweet Paprika 784g

Total Veg Harvest for May 3.8Kgs

Apples Pink Lady 1176g
Pears 450g

Total Fruit Harvest for May 1.6Kg

Total Eggs for May:  11 eggs.
3 From the 7 Farmyard Bantams (from one of the little new girls!!!)
8 From the 3 Faverolles

The first tiny eggs from the new bantams

The Greens planted in the Bath Tub Bed were struggling in the cooler conditions until I popped over a covering of clear plastic and growth took off.

Work on the garden around the new chook food shed is continuing with ideas falling into place as it develops. Next is a delivery of new bare rooted fruit trees and some seedling fruit trees moved to the area to extend the orchard or what is becoming more of a food forest.

  1. I'm jealous of your rain fall. I can't remember more than 10mm last month.I might have to take better records.

    1. It seems to be very dry up your way Stewart...
I think this might be the last of the "better than average" months though by the look of that link above it looks like we are heading for a drier than average winter...
I am careful with my records now that the BOM has stopped it's monthly total bulletins (here in SA at least) on their website.
