Potato Pots

Just what I thought might happen...the potatoes in the White Wicking Bucket are much happier than those in the Black Wicking Pots!

These have all been covered with 70% shadecloth on days with temps over 30C but those black pots are still heating up too much.

They would be better suited to a late winter/very early spring crop with frost protection...another note to self for next year!

***This was not a controlled test, just an observation!***

  2. Black pots are useful in winter to help warm things up but can overheat easily in summer.

Maybe we should start a trend and paint our black pots white!!!! ;)

  6. This is such an inspiring blog. I have been gardening, mostly vegetables and a cottage garden here in S/W Western Australia for 26 years. I have so much fun sharing my experiences on my blog and it's so thrilling to receive possitive comments. My passion is healthful, creative cooking from the garden, so I share my recipes too. I would like to create a link to your blog, thanks Didee

  8. Scarecrow, really thank you for this post! I moved all the black pots of ginger and thai basil into the shade and I think that saved them from being cooked yesterday (40 deg). The black pots were really hot to touch! The colour of pots do make a big difference! Thank you!
