Friday Photo Update: Heatwave Growth

A quick up-date of my garden in the heat

Bed 4 still has 70% shadecloth over it
but the new plantings appreciate it.

The Tank Beds also under high shade are thriving.
These are watered with 2 litre soft drink bottles
upturned with small holes punched in their lids.

The heat has been ripening these
Ida Gold Bush Cherry tomatoes daily.

The Blue Lake Climbing Beans are producing well
in the Bed 10 Wicking-Worm bed.

The Herb Spiral continues to thrive
out in the full, hot sun near
the Northern stone wall of the house...
...the hottest spot in the garden!

Hi Scarecrow,

I just wanted to leave comment about your site. I have been visiting for a while and enjoy looking at what you and Doc have been doing. We live nearby and this heat is not much fun. Poor old garden is feeling it, especially with the water restrictions. We have another week of heat yet. Being fairly new to growing vegies I dont think this was the year to start. Our apple cucumbers looked great but upon eating they were very bitter, one would pressume this happened because of lack of water. Keep up the good work with your blog and thanks for the many hints you provide.

Hi Tania
Thanks for the comment. No this isn't the best year up here with this heat that seems to be early this year...coming just when things are starting to ripen.
Don't give up; your soil will improve and consider some shade...I'm still working on this and have just spent this morning sewing up some 50% shadecloth for the poor old vegetables.
This heat really drains the life out of them and us!
